Narrative:
ATC assigned us an altitude of 8000 ft on approach to hnl. 3000 ft was set in altitude alert window mistakenly. I descended to 5500 ft when first officer reminded me that the assigned altitude was 8000 ft aircraft was climbed back to 8000 ft without any adverse affect on traffic.

Narrative: ATC ASSIGNED US AN ALT OF 8000 FT ON APCH TO HNL. 3000 FT WAS SET IN ALT ALERT WINDOW MISTAKENLY. I DSNDED TO 5500 FT WHEN FO REMINDED ME THAT THE ASSIGNED ALT WAS 8000 FT ACFT WAS CLBED BACK TO 8000 FT WITHOUT ANY ADVERSE AFFECT ON TFC.
