Narrative:

Being hand flown by first officer and being vectored to final approach to runway 9R at ord. ATC gave instruction to fly 120 degrees to intercept final and to descend from 6000 ft to 5000 ft. Nearing level off at 5000 ft, the crew became distracted looking for traffic ahead and descended to between 4600 ft and 4700 ft. Received altitude alert from aircraft and immediately returned to 5000 ft. At the same time the aircraft returned to 5000 ft, ATC cleared flight to 4000 ft and then cleared flight for the approach. Nothing was mentioned by ATC concerning this altitude deviation and the remainder of the approach was normal. WX at the time of incident was VMC.
