Narrative:
We were on a short flight from dtw-mke with a full load of passenger. Approximately 10 mi out, when flaps 1 degree were selected, we notified the flight attendants with a double ding of the forward and aft flight attendants call buttons. We were never notified in the cockpit that the flight attendant's were behind in their cleanup of the cabin, however, after the passenger deplaned I learned that we landed with the beverage carts unsecured and the flight attendant's still standing up. I asked them why they thought this happened and they said they thought they had time because they didn't see the ground. Unfortunately the WX was 100 ft 1/4 mi and they never saw the ground. I feel that this incident could have been prevented if the flight attendants had followed proper procedures and finished their cabin clean up within 5 mins of notification or notified the cockpit they needed extra time, instead of waiting to see the ground.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A-320 CABIN NOT READY FOR LNDG. CABIN ATTENDANTS AND CARTS STILL IN AISLE UPON TOUCHDOWN. A CARTE BLANC OP.
Narrative: WE WERE ON A SHORT FLT FROM DTW-MKE WITH A FULL LOAD OF PAX. APPROX 10 MI OUT, WHEN FLAPS 1 DEG WERE SELECTED, WE NOTIFIED THE FLT ATTENDANTS WITH A DOUBLE DING OF THE FORWARD AND AFT FLT ATTENDANTS CALL BUTTONS. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED IN THE COCKPIT THAT THE FLT ATTENDANT'S WERE BEHIND IN THEIR CLEANUP OF THE CABIN, HOWEVER, AFTER THE PAX DEPLANED I LEARNED THAT WE LANDED WITH THE BEVERAGE CARTS UNSECURED AND THE FLT ATTENDANT'S STILL STANDING UP. I ASKED THEM WHY THEY THOUGHT THIS HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD TIME BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T SEE THE GND. UNFORTUNATELY THE WX WAS 100 FT 1/4 MI AND THEY NEVER SAW THE GND. I FEEL THAT THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD FOLLOWED PROPER PROCS AND FINISHED THEIR CABIN CLEAN UP WITHIN 5 MINS OF NOTIFICATION OR NOTIFIED THE COCKPIT THEY NEEDED EXTRA TIME, INSTEAD OF WAITING TO SEE THE GND.
