Narrative:
Tall trees form a dangerous barrier at east end of runway 6/24 at pwk airport. The airport and runway existed before the trees grew. The displaced threshold is of little comfort. Some of these trees should be removed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he is trying to have a clear area made in the trees off the approach end of runway 24. He believes that we can add to the safety issue to the airport in helping to bring about coordination with the county forestry in taking action. He further stated that the prevailing wind is down runway 24 and therefore, the runway is used frequently. The airport is the second busiest airport in the state of illinois. This was reported to airport authority/authorized. So far, no action. The trees are indicated on the approach chart at an elevation of 90 ft above the runway threshold. He also stated that pilot association did get the electric power company to lower and mark the power line out from the departure end of runway 24 since they presented a safety hazard.

Title: PLT RPTED HIGH TREES NEAR APCH END OF WIND FAVORED RWY AS A SAFETY HAZARD.
Narrative: TALL TREES FORM A DANGEROUS BARRIER AT E END OF RWY 6/24 AT PWK ARPT. THE ARPT AND RWY EXISTED BEFORE THE TREES GREW. THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD IS OF LITTLE COMFORT. SOME OF THESE TREES SHOULD BE REMOVED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE IS TRYING TO HAVE A CLR AREA MADE IN THE TREES OFF THE APCH END OF RWY 24. HE BELIEVES THAT WE CAN ADD TO THE SAFETY ISSUE TO THE ARPT IN HELPING TO BRING ABOUT COORD WITH THE COUNTY FORESTRY IN TAKING ACTION. HE FURTHER STATED THAT THE PREVAILING WIND IS DOWN RWY 24 AND THEREFORE, THE RWY IS USED FREQUENTLY. THE ARPT IS THE SECOND BUSIEST ARPT IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. THIS WAS RPTED TO ARPT AUTH. SO FAR, NO ACTION. THE TREES ARE INDICATED ON THE APCH CHART AT AN ELEVATION OF 90 FT ABOVE THE RWY THRESHOLD. HE ALSO STATED THAT PLT ASSOCIATION DID GET THE ELECTRIC PWR COMPANY TO LOWER AND MARK THE PWR LINE OUT FROM THE DEP END OF RWY 24 SINCE THEY PRESENTED A SAFETY HAZARD.
