Narrative:

WX was 400 ft overcast, 1/2 mi visibility, wind 050 degrees at 11 KTS. On ILS runway 35L approach, tower reported braking as good. Just inside OM, tower changed and said braking unknown. On touchdown, approximately center of runway, aircraft started to slide left. I tried to stop slide with rudder but slid off with left main. Stowed reversers during this time and then nose gear went off. I managed to get nose gear back on runway before stopping. Aircraft stopped with left gear off runway. Nobody hurt, very calm passenger and deplaned after vans showed up. We reported nil braking to tower. We were unaware of heavy snow fall, over an inch on runway and any braking action other than good. Very minor aircraft damage. Supplemental information from acn 300300: flight was given braking action 'good' at approximately XA30Z. Flight landed at XA44Z. No one was hurt. Aircraft was ferried out of gfk after minor repairs. The captain told me he was unable to control the aircraft due to 'nil' braking action. It is my opinion that the people responsible for cleaning the runway and taking that braking action report were wrong.

Title: DURING A HVY SNOW FALL, WITH LATEST BRAKING ACTION RPTED 'UNKNOWN,' A DC-9 LANDED AND LOST DIRECTIONAL CTL.

Narrative: WX WAS 400 FT OVCST, 1/2 MI VISIBILITY, WIND 050 DEGS AT 11 KTS. ON ILS RWY 35L APCH, TWR RPTED BRAKING AS GOOD. JUST INSIDE OM, TWR CHANGED AND SAID BRAKING UNKNOWN. ON TOUCHDOWN, APPROX CTR OF RWY, ACFT STARTED TO SLIDE L. I TRIED TO STOP SLIDE WITH RUDDER BUT SLID OFF WITH L MAIN. STOWED REVERSERS DURING THIS TIME AND THEN NOSE GEAR WENT OFF. I MANAGED TO GET NOSE GEAR BACK ON RWY BEFORE STOPPING. ACFT STOPPED WITH L GEAR OFF RWY. NOBODY HURT, VERY CALM PAX AND DEPLANED AFTER VANS SHOWED UP. WE RPTED NIL BRAKING TO TWR. WE WERE UNAWARE OF HVY SNOW FALL, OVER AN INCH ON RWY AND ANY BRAKING ACTION OTHER THAN GOOD. VERY MINOR ACFT DAMAGE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 300300: FLT WAS GIVEN BRAKING ACTION 'GOOD' AT APPROX XA30Z. FLT LANDED AT XA44Z. NO ONE WAS HURT. ACFT WAS FERRIED OUT OF GFK AFTER MINOR REPAIRS. THE CAPT TOLD ME HE WAS UNABLE TO CTL THE ACFT DUE TO 'NIL' BRAKING ACTION. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING THE RWY AND TAKING THAT BRAKING ACTION RPT WERE WRONG.
