Narrative:

We started a flight from boston to bwi that was the first flight of the day for that aircraft. We reviewed the logbook and ran through the normal checklists. Before departure the lead flight attendant said 1 row of seats would not adjust from 'coach' to 'business select' confign. We called maintenance to fix the problem. When maintenance arrived they said they could not fix the problem. En route we discovered the logbook was missing. Maintenance had taken it in boston without notifying us. (The logbook is stored behind the pilots; seats, out of view.) we should confirm the logbook has not been taken anytime maintenance enters the cockpit. Maintenance should inform the flight crew if they take the logbook.
