Narrative:
Level at 31000 ft TCASII gave a TA and changed to an RA with a 'climb climb' audio command and the pitch cues. We began a climb. First officer immediately advised ATC we were climbing due to TCASII advisory. ATC controller told us to descend to 31000 ft and advised us that we had traffic at our 6 O'clock position level at 33000 ft. We again advised him that we were following TCASII instructions. At this point the TCASII warning changed to 'descend descend' with pitch cues, which we again followed. When we leveled at 31000 ft, we received a 'clear of conflict' advisory. I followed this incident up with a phone call to ZLA to confirm our situation and reaction. We were told that no separation was lost.

Title: A FALSE TCASII RA TEMPORARILY DIRECTED THE RPTR TO CLB TOWARDS TFC THAT WAS ABOVE HIM IN LEVEL FLT.
Narrative: LEVEL AT 31000 FT TCASII GAVE A TA AND CHANGED TO AN RA WITH A 'CLB CLB' AUDIO COMMAND AND THE PITCH CUES. WE BEGAN A CLB. FO IMMEDIATELY ADVISED ATC WE WERE CLBING DUE TO TCASII ADVISORY. ATC CTLR TOLD US TO DSND TO 31000 FT AND ADVISED US THAT WE HAD TFC AT OUR 6 O'CLOCK POS LEVEL AT 33000 FT. WE AGAIN ADVISED HIM THAT WE WERE FOLLOWING TCASII INSTRUCTIONS. AT THIS POINT THE TCASII WARNING CHANGED TO 'DSND DSND' WITH PITCH CUES, WHICH WE AGAIN FOLLOWED. WHEN WE LEVELED AT 31000 FT, WE RECEIVED A 'CLR OF CONFLICT' ADVISORY. I FOLLOWED THIS INCIDENT UP WITH A PHONE CALL TO ZLA TO CONFIRM OUR SIT AND REACTION. WE WERE TOLD THAT NO SEPARATION WAS LOST.
