Narrative:
On pilot's discretion descent from 10000 ft to 7000 ft, passing 8000 ft, got GPWS warnings 'terrain, too low, pull up.' started climb and warning stopped at approximately 9200 ft. Stopped climb, verified altimeter settings and altitude from ATC, approach control, then continued for normal approach. Suspect caused by temperature inversion layer. Temperature at 8000 ft was plus 13 degrees C, and plus 5 degrees C on the ground. Also, in heavy clouds and moderate rain.

Title: EVASIVE ACTION CLB CREATES AN ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION.
Narrative: ON PLT'S DISCRETION DSCNT FROM 10000 FT TO 7000 FT, PASSING 8000 FT, GOT GPWS WARNINGS 'TERRAIN, TOO LOW, PULL UP.' STARTED CLB AND WARNING STOPPED AT APPROX 9200 FT. STOPPED CLB, VERIFIED ALTIMETER SETTINGS AND ALT FROM ATC, APCH CTL, THEN CONTINUED FOR NORMAL APCH. SUSPECT CAUSED BY TEMP INVERSION LAYER. TEMP AT 8000 FT WAS PLUS 13 DEGS C, AND PLUS 5 DEGS C ON THE GND. ALSO, IN HVY CLOUDS AND MODERATE RAIN.
