Narrative:

After landing and taxiing in at fll, the flight engineer stated 'main cabin door warning light came on.' he immediately picked up the intercom and told the flight attendant to hit the handle. This extinguished the light. The reason I'm filling out the form is because we had an FAA maintenance inspector from the fll office on board. He became upset and stated that this was an attempt by the flight attendant at the forward position to activate the ACARS and show us with an 'in time' earlier than actual. By cracking the door the ACARS would show us in, up to 4 or 5 mins ahead of actual in time and lessen our chance of being outside of the 'DOT 14' leeway on scheduled arrival time. I had no knowledge of such a practice and the flight attendant denied such motivation.
