Narrative:
At cruise altitude, for some reason, I asked to see the logbook. The first officer handed it to me. Behold! There was an outstanding write-up! We took the aircraft in slc and even though the first officer stated that the logbook was signed off, it was not. In fact, it had a write up outstanding. In this downsizing of airlines, we all need to double-check!
