Narrative:

I had to leave the cockpit to relieve myself while at cruise. I had the flight attendant follow me back to cockpit to unlock door but found the door unlocked. I remembered locking the door. Nothing was said. I also don't remember whether FAA jumpseat was briefed on sterile cockpit. There was a jumpseat briefing given. I had to ask him for his identify. It was not offered, nor was anything said at conclusion of flight. This individual seemed to act like he was playing a game. May have just been my imagination, but he just seemed really suspicious like he was trying to catch you at something. I've never had anything to hide in my cockpit and just found his behavior inconducive to good cockpit resource management. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter believes that the aci was genuine. The reporter and his first officer talked about the aci and came to the conclusion that 'he was just weird.' the aci might have unlocked the cockpit door to lay a trap for the reporter, but probably not. The reporter does not know how the door became unlocked. As FAA personnel are required to show their identify without being asked, it was very unusual to have to dig this out of the aci. The reporter has heard nothing further from the aci regarding this flight.

Title: AN ACR CAPT MET A 'WEIRD' ACI.

Narrative: I HAD TO LEAVE THE COCKPIT TO RELIEVE MYSELF WHILE AT CRUISE. I HAD THE FLT ATTENDANT FOLLOW ME BACK TO COCKPIT TO UNLOCK DOOR BUT FOUND THE DOOR UNLOCKED. I REMEMBERED LOCKING THE DOOR. NOTHING WAS SAID. I ALSO DON'T REMEMBER WHETHER FAA JUMPSEAT WAS BRIEFED ON STERILE COCKPIT. THERE WAS A JUMPSEAT BRIEFING GIVEN. I HAD TO ASK HIM FOR HIS IDENT. IT WAS NOT OFFERED, NOR WAS ANYTHING SAID AT CONCLUSION OF FLT. THIS INDIVIDUAL SEEMED TO ACT LIKE HE WAS PLAYING A GAME. MAY HAVE JUST BEEN MY IMAGINATION, BUT HE JUST SEEMED REALLY SUSPICIOUS LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO CATCH YOU AT SOMETHING. I'VE NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO HIDE IN MY COCKPIT AND JUST FOUND HIS BEHAVIOR INCONDUCIVE TO GOOD COCKPIT RESOURCE MGMNT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR BELIEVES THAT THE ACI WAS GENUINE. THE RPTR AND HIS FO TALKED ABOUT THE ACI AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT 'HE WAS JUST WEIRD.' THE ACI MIGHT HAVE UNLOCKED THE COCKPIT DOOR TO LAY A TRAP FOR THE RPTR, BUT PROBABLY NOT. THE RPTR DOES NOT KNOW HOW THE DOOR BECAME UNLOCKED. AS FAA PERSONNEL ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW THEIR IDENT WITHOUT BEING ASKED, IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL TO HAVE TO DIG THIS OUT OF THE ACI. THE RPTR HAS HEARD NOTHING FURTHER FROM THE ACI REGARDING THIS FLT.
