Narrative:
I reported at the sepulveda pass to van nuys helicopter control requesting landing at vny on the west side. The tower requested that I report at the ventura freeway inbound. When I reported at the freeway crossing, the tower called out a twin in a right turn climb out, and a second aircraft which just departed runway 16R. I immediately saw the first twin and scanned the departure area for the second aircraft. What caught my attention was the shadow of an aircraft on the ground. At the next second, I viewed the aircraft in a climbing slight right turn. I raised collective and rolled to the right in about a 20 degree turn. The piper twin passed off to my left side and out of sight.

WHEN I RPTED AT THE FREEWAY XING, THE TWR CALLED OUT A TWIN IN A R TURN CLBOUT, AND A SECOND ACFT WHICH JUST DEPARTED RWY 16R. I IMMEDIATELY SAW THE FIRST TWIN AND SCANNED THE DEP AREA FOR THE SECOND ACFT. WHAT CAUGHT MY ATTN WAS THE SHADOW OF AN ACFT ON THE GND. AT THE NEXT SECOND, I VIEWED THE ACFT IN A CLBING SLIGHT R TURN. I RAISED COLLECTIVE AND ROLLED TO THE R IN ABOUT A 20 DEG TURN. THE PIPER TWIN PASSED OFF TO MY L SIDE AND OUT OF SIGHT.
