Narrative:
During preflight of aircraft logbooks, noticed a deferred maintenance item improperly secured for the second time in 2 days. Notified maintenance and had the item corrected again. Did not continue checking the correctness of the dmi. That particular dmi had a 'correct prior to' date of apr/tues/95. Began the training flight on apr/mon/95 but flew into apr/tues/95. Preflight action should have been more thorough and maintenance should have advised training of possible conflict.
