Narrative:
Cleared by ZNY to descend from 6000 ft to 5000 ft. On autoplt the FMA went to altitude capture but went through 5000 ft and did not establish altitude hold but continued a descent. Captain discovered the descent to 280 ft below 5000 ft and immediately took over the aircraft and climbed back to 5000 ft (I was the captain/lca.) supplemental information from acn 302522: ATC said nothing. Supp.emental information from acn 302679: takeoff from phl en route to ewr a short, busy flight, got distracted with other duties and autoplt didn't catch us.
