Narrative:

The previous day, apr/fri/95, a pilot wrote up a light missing in the gear handle. Pilot and maintenance action was taken to get the aircraft back to ord. The write-up was left open. On apr/sat/95 I picked up aircraft number at XA20-XA30 and checked my log page on which there were no open write- ups. I later discovered there was an open write-up the previous day. I feel this problem could have been avoided by more vigilant maintenance procedures with respect to tracking write- ups. Also, it would help us, as capts, if the pilot deferred items and maintenance deferred items were a different color in the log can. I was not the first captain to accept the aircraft.
