Narrative:
We were cleared by ground control to taxi to runway 28. On taxi out, the captain seemed disoriented to where he actually was, so I told him to make a right turn on either taxiway T or taxiway east to get to taxiway a, which is the parallel to runway 28. However, as we were approaching runway 32 we were doing the checklist and then the next thing I realize is that he made a right turn onto taxiway M, and about to cross an active runway, runway 28. There was an aircraft on final but he was about 4 or 5 mi out. I asked the captain if he knew where he was at and he said yes. I immediately told him in a louder tone that he should have went left and that he was crossing runway 28. He said no, he wasn't and added power and crossed the runway. Ground control asked where we were going and we told them we made a mistake. The controller said that it was no problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT CROSSED ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED BY GND CTL TO TAXI TO RWY 28. ON TAXI OUT, THE CAPT SEEMED DISORIENTED TO WHERE HE ACTUALLY WAS, SO I TOLD HIM TO MAKE A R TURN ON EITHER TXWY T OR TXWY E TO GET TO TXWY A, WHICH IS THE PARALLEL TO RWY 28. HOWEVER, AS WE WERE APCHING RWY 32 WE WERE DOING THE CHKLIST AND THEN THE NEXT THING I REALIZE IS THAT HE MADE A R TURN ONTO TXWY M, AND ABOUT TO CROSS AN ACTIVE RWY, RWY 28. THERE WAS AN ACFT ON FINAL BUT HE WAS ABOUT 4 OR 5 MI OUT. I ASKED THE CAPT IF HE KNEW WHERE HE WAS AT AND HE SAID YES. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD HIM IN A LOUDER TONE THAT HE SHOULD HAVE WENT L AND THAT HE WAS XING RWY 28. HE SAID NO, HE WASN'T AND ADDED PWR AND CROSSED THE RWY. GND CTL ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING AND WE TOLD THEM WE MADE A MISTAKE. THE CTLR SAID THAT IT WAS NO PROB.
