Narrative:
The los angeles terminal chart details 3 methods to cross the class B airspace over the city, but only indicates 2 on the chart itself. As a non-local, low time pilot, I became confused by the route available to a pilot wishing to use the special flight rules VFR corridor. I flew the shore route believing this to be the corridor. Upon my return from catalina I was asked to contact the duty supervisor who informed me of my error and took my pilot information. He told me that the FAA would be in contact with me. I must mention that I tried to clarify the situation with socal just prior to entering the corridor, as well as trying to gain insight with burbank ground prior to takeoff, and both were far too busy for any detailed help. It is my belief that the chart is difficult to read. The special use corridor is not shown, but 2 ATC controled VFR rtes are. Non lcls unfamiliar with landmarks depend heavily on VFR charts, and seeing a route very close to corridor might become confused, as I did.

Title: UNAUTH UNCOORD PENETRATION OF CLASS B AIRSPACE IN THE LAX VFR CORRIDOR.
Narrative: THE LOS ANGELES TERMINAL CHART DETAILS 3 METHODS TO CROSS THE CLASS B AIRSPACE OVER THE CITY, BUT ONLY INDICATES 2 ON THE CHART ITSELF. AS A NON-LCL, LOW TIME PLT, I BECAME CONFUSED BY THE RTE AVAILABLE TO A PLT WISHING TO USE THE SPECIAL FLT RULES VFR CORRIDOR. I FLEW THE SHORE RTE BELIEVING THIS TO BE THE CORRIDOR. UPON MY RETURN FROM CATALINA I WAS ASKED TO CONTACT THE DUTY SUPVR WHO INFORMED ME OF MY ERROR AND TOOK MY PLT INFO. HE TOLD ME THAT THE FAA WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH ME. I MUST MENTION THAT I TRIED TO CLARIFY THE SIT WITH SOCAL JUST PRIOR TO ENTERING THE CORRIDOR, AS WELL AS TRYING TO GAIN INSIGHT WITH BURBANK GND PRIOR TO TKOF, AND BOTH WERE FAR TOO BUSY FOR ANY DETAILED HELP. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE CHART IS DIFFICULT TO READ. THE SPECIAL USE CORRIDOR IS NOT SHOWN, BUT 2 ATC CTLED VFR RTES ARE. NON LCLS UNFAMILIAR WITH LANDMARKS DEPEND HEAVILY ON VFR CHARTS, AND SEEING A RTE VERY CLOSE TO CORRIDOR MIGHT BECOME CONFUSED, AS I DID.
