Narrative:

During climb to FL370 in attempt to get above WX at 36800 ft, experienced onset of light buffet. Immediately initiated descent, called ATC for clearance to FL330. Received clearance immediately. FMS indicated aircraft capable of FL370 and closest painted WX was 80 NM. WX was unstable approaching FL370. Recommend verification of FMS information with other performance data when operating close to performance limit. Supplemental information from acn 304450: descent with autoplt off. Called ZHU for clearance to FL330.
