Narrative:
While on taxiway D adjacent to the runway 4L pad, our aircraft was struck by an aircraft. Our aircraft was struck on the right horizontal stabilizer by the left wingtip of the aircraft. Our aircraft's confign was: on taxiway centerline, parking brake set, #1 engine running only (due to ATC delays), APU running. After impact, I immediately shut down #1 engine and advised tower of our situation. I asked them to inspect my tail section, being concerned about my APU. Upon report from the tower, I informed the cabin (passenger and flight attendants) to remain seated and we would be going back to the gate. Emergency vehicles were immediately dispatched and company and maintenance were notified. I arranged for a tow back to the terminal and kept in contact with company operations concerning our passenger flight itinerary. Upon arrival, all appropriate parties were contacted. This collision could have been avoided by the crew being vigilant during all facets of aircraft operation and never having a question about 'do I have enough room?'
