Narrative:
Flight was originally planned for IFR from roseburg to V121 dsd to bke. The WX was clear VFR so the routing was changed to a composite flight plan. The first leg from roseburg to dsd was changed to VFR direct and from there on to be IFR as planned. The navigation log used was a new format utilizing a commercial en route flight log which shows frequency over radial instead of the familiar format frequency radial to/from. I failed to erase the 067 degree radial course which was to have been the V121 course to dsd. Upon reaching dsd, after closing the VFR flight plan with mmv and obtaining the IFR clearance from ZSE, instead of changing from the direct course of 036 degrees to dsd 052 degrees outbound, changed to the 067 degree inbound course to imb when center gave a heading change and clearance direct imb. A distraction occurred approaching dsd when I gave assurances to my partner's sister and 7 yr old niece regarding the slight turbulence we had just encountered. Corrective actions include: changing back to navigation log differentiating 'to/from' course and increased attention at navigation change points.

Title: THE PLT'S USE OF A NEW COMMERCIAL ENRTE LOG FORMAT CONTRIBUTED TO A LIGHT MULTI-ENG ACFT'S TRACK DEV. CTLR ISSUED NEW CLRNC.
Narrative: FLT WAS ORIGINALLY PLANNED FOR IFR FROM ROSEBURG TO V121 DSD TO BKE. THE WX WAS CLR VFR SO THE ROUTING WAS CHANGED TO A COMPOSITE FLT PLAN. THE FIRST LEG FROM ROSEBURG TO DSD WAS CHANGED TO VFR DIRECT AND FROM THERE ON TO BE IFR AS PLANNED. THE NAV LOG USED WAS A NEW FORMAT UTILIZING A COMMERCIAL ENRTE FLT LOG WHICH SHOWS FREQ OVER RADIAL INSTEAD OF THE FAMILIAR FORMAT FREQ RADIAL TO/FROM. I FAILED TO ERASE THE 067 DEG RADIAL COURSE WHICH WAS TO HAVE BEEN THE V121 COURSE TO DSD. UPON REACHING DSD, AFTER CLOSING THE VFR FLT PLAN WITH MMV AND OBTAINING THE IFR CLRNC FROM ZSE, INSTEAD OF CHANGING FROM THE DIRECT COURSE OF 036 DEGS TO DSD 052 DEGS OUTBOUND, CHANGED TO THE 067 DEG INBOUND COURSE TO IMB WHEN CTR GAVE A HDG CHANGE AND CLRNC DIRECT IMB. A DISTR OCCURRED APCHING DSD WHEN I GAVE ASSURANCES TO MY PARTNER'S SISTER AND 7 YR OLD NIECE REGARDING THE SLIGHT TURB WE HAD JUST ENCOUNTERED. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS INCLUDE: CHANGING BACK TO NAV LOG DIFFERENTIATING 'TO/FROM' COURSE AND INCREASED ATTN AT NAV CHANGE POINTS.
