Narrative:
Prospective student's first demonstration flight. Instructor assisted student in takeoff. Student over-rotated and did not compensate for left turning tendencies. Instructor took over controls and attempted to recover airplane airborne. Altitude was not sufficient for stall recovery and airplane settled into grass on left side of runway and proceeded to rollout. Left wing leading edge contacted VASI lights on runway 27L. Contributing to the problem is instructor's unfamiliarity with plane. In the future, instructor will thoroughly familiarize himself with all new aircraft flown. Also, instructor will abort from bad sits earlier, and be more conservative with students.
