Narrative:
On climb out from augusta, GA, we flew through some light to moderate turbulence just as I was setting the altitude reminder. We were cleared to 7000 ft. The first officer was flying. I hadn't noticed at the time but the altitude reminder was actually set to 8000 ft. Evidently the turbulence had caused me to bump it to 8000 ft by mistake. We leveled at 8000 ft, then the controller asked us to verify our altitude at 7000 ft. Obviously this was my error. Not only by setting the altitude reminder incorrectly but also in failing to verify correct altitude with first officer and failing to make altitude callouts. This made a deep impression on me to be more careful.

Title: ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOT IN CLB.
Narrative: ON CLB OUT FROM AUGUSTA, GA, WE FLEW THROUGH SOME LIGHT TO MODERATE TURB JUST AS I WAS SETTING THE ALT REMINDER. WE WERE CLRED TO 7000 FT. THE FO WAS FLYING. I HADN'T NOTICED AT THE TIME BUT THE ALT REMINDER WAS ACTUALLY SET TO 8000 FT. EVIDENTLY THE TURB HAD CAUSED ME TO BUMP IT TO 8000 FT BY MISTAKE. WE LEVELED AT 8000 FT, THEN THE CTLR ASKED US TO VERIFY OUR ALT AT 7000 FT. OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS MY ERROR. NOT ONLY BY SETTING THE ALT REMINDER INCORRECTLY BUT ALSO IN FAILING TO VERIFY CORRECT ALT WITH FO AND FAILING TO MAKE ALT CALLOUTS. THIS MADE A DEEP IMPRESSION ON ME TO BE MORE CAREFUL.
