Narrative:
I was instructing in a PA28-140 when I misidented spuin island for battleship island. I could not hear ATC because of the aircraft radio cutting in and out. I became overloaded with cockpit work, as I was flying a 140 for the first time, and also trying to instruct. I believe that sometime reviewing the specifics of that airplane would have reduced my workload enough to deal with an unfamiliar airport, and malfunctioning radio.
