Narrative:

While I was off frequency the first officer received a change of our arrival clearance from the batsn arrival to the daisetta arrival into houston hobby airport. When I returned to the primary frequency from obtaining ATIS, my first officer did not tell me the new clearance. He continued to fly the old clearance until queried by the center controller. When directed to fly directly to daisetta for the new clearance we were 25-30 degrees off course at about 12 mi from the station. We then proceeded on course. A breakdown in communication contributed to the error. When a pilot comes back to the primary frequency a good habit is to always relay the/or any new clrncs at that time.
