Narrative:

On transition from nanci 5 arrival into lga, ATC called out traffic 10 O'clock low. Air carrier MD80 was climbing out of clouds in left turn. Its projected flight path would intersect my flight at some point ahead. I stopped my previously cleared descent to 7000 ft and leveled. When RA sounded, 'climb, traffic, climb,' I started climb and banked the aircraft to keep traffic in sight. Traffic leveled off approximately 1000 ft below and went directly under me. I took evasive action to ensure sufficient separation, since I did not know if other airplane was going to level below me.

Title: A TCASII RA REQUIRED EVASIVE ACTION CLB AND TURN.

Narrative: ON TRANSITION FROM NANCI 5 ARR INTO LGA, ATC CALLED OUT TFC 10 O'CLOCK LOW. ACR MD80 WAS CLBING OUT OF CLOUDS IN L TURN. ITS PROJECTED FLT PATH WOULD INTERSECT MY FLT AT SOME POINT AHEAD. I STOPPED MY PREVIOUSLY CLRED DSCNT TO 7000 FT AND LEVELED. WHEN RA SOUNDED, 'CLB, TFC, CLB,' I STARTED CLB AND BANKED THE ACFT TO KEEP TFC IN SIGHT. TFC LEVELED OFF APPROX 1000 FT BELOW AND WENT DIRECTLY UNDER ME. I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT SEPARATION, SINCE I DID NOT KNOW IF OTHER AIRPLANE WAS GOING TO LEVEL BELOW ME.
