Narrative:

We were taxiing out for departure. Just after starting the #1 engine, we received a cargo smoke warning which we believed to be false, intermittent. Heavy thunderstorms were approaching the field. I did not fire the cargo extinguisher and evacuate the aircraft, but elected to turn around and pull back into the gate. A visual inspection showed no problem in the cargo bay. Maintenance was called. The #2 cargo smoke detector was found to be the problem. The system was deferred.
