Narrative:
After start-up propeller levers were advanced, aircraft rolled forward and struck gpu. All checklists performed, yet parking brake lever was not in park position when aircraft rolled. Further investigation found brake lever cam broken (piece which holds parking brake in parked position). Parking brake cam should be checked regularly by maintenance or crews!

Title: ATR42 HITS CPU AFTER ENG START UP. GND INCIDENT. ACFT MAINT DISCREPANCY.
Narrative: AFTER START-UP PROP LEVERS WERE ADVANCED, ACFT ROLLED FORWARD AND STRUCK GPU. ALL CHKLISTS PERFORMED, YET PARKING BRAKE LEVER WAS NOT IN PARK POS WHEN ACFT ROLLED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND BRAKE LEVER CAM BROKEN (PIECE WHICH HOLDS PARKING BRAKE IN PARKED POS). PARKING BRAKE CAM SHOULD BE CHKED REGULARLY BY MAINT OR CREWS!
