Narrative:
Both right main tires blew out on takeoff roll, aborted takeoff from high speed. Evacuate/evacuationed aircraft, with only 3 minor injuries. Supplemental information from acn 309083: before V1, aircraft started to shudder. Aircraft was brought to a stop approximately 750 ft from the end of the runway. Remains of the right outboard tire were burning. During tire failure, no braking was available on right main landing gear. The aircraft manufacturer is not required to demonstrate performance data relating to abort stop distance after tire and/or brake failure. Safety investigators informed us, all bets were off after the tires failed. Performance data is based on a best case instead of a worst case or degraded scenario. Maybe this criteria should be looked into further, and would aid in the decision process in incidents of this nature in the future.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: EMER EVAC ON RWY.
Narrative: BOTH R MAIN TIRES BLEW OUT ON TKOF ROLL, ABORTED TKOF FROM HIGH SPD. EVACED ACFT, WITH ONLY 3 MINOR INJURIES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 309083: BEFORE V1, ACFT STARTED TO SHUDDER. ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP APPROX 750 FT FROM THE END OF THE RWY. REMAINS OF THE R OUTBOARD TIRE WERE BURNING. DURING TIRE FAILURE, NO BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE ON R MAIN LNDG GEAR. THE ACFT MANUFACTURER IS NOT REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE PERFORMANCE DATA RELATING TO ABORT STOP DISTANCE AFTER TIRE AND/OR BRAKE FAILURE.
