Narrative:
Was eastbound on V-16 to abilene VOR. I had been handed over to tower from approach control. Tower said airport at 1 O'clock do you have in sight. We said yes. Tower said cleared to land on runway 17R. We lined up and landed on runway 16 at dyess AFB. Were met with at least 6 police cars and troops with automatic weapons. Had to stand with hands up while our aircraft was searched. We were interrogated for 2 hours and videotaped. When they decided we were ok they let us go. I was very embarrassed. They were courteous. Human factors: fatigue from long day and flying through turbulence. Distances appear different out west to me since I am used to flying in the east.
