Narrative:
Air carrier aircraft a B737-300 was parked at the gate, being readied for trip departure. Lga maintenance reported to 737 controller supervisor that a mail truck had backed into the r-hand wing causing damage to leading r-hand wing, and quoted maintenance manual reference #XXX. Dimensions given to maintenance controller were within limits for continued service. However, when aircraft arrived at ord, ord checked damage and found it more extensive than reported and aircraft was taken OTS and the #6 slat was replaced.

Title: ACFT DAMAGED -- ACR DAMAGED WHEN STRUCK BY VEHICLE WHILE IN GATE. BASED ON AN IMPROPER DESCRIPTION FROM A MECH, THE DISTANT MAINT SUPVR CLRED THE ACFT FOR FLT WHEN IT WAS NOT AIRWORTHY.
Narrative: ACR ACFT A B737-300 WAS PARKED AT THE GATE, BEING READIED FOR TRIP DEP. LGA MAINT RPTED TO 737 CTLR SUPVR THAT A MAIL TRUCK HAD BACKED INTO THE R-HAND WING CAUSING DAMAGE TO LEADING R-HAND WING, AND QUOTED MAINT MANUAL REF #XXX. DIMENSIONS GIVEN TO MAINT CTLR WERE WITHIN LIMITS FOR CONTINUED SVC. HOWEVER, WHEN ACFT ARRIVED AT ORD, ORD CHKED DAMAGE AND FOUND IT MORE EXTENSIVE THAN RPTED AND ACFT WAS TAKEN OTS AND THE #6 SLAT WAS REPLACED.
