Narrative:
Aircraft was being flown by first officer. I was in the process of obtaining ATIS information for stl. Instead of tracking 039 degree radial out of sgf for the arrival, first officer flew out direct to stl. ATC noted error about 20 mi later and called it to our attention. We then received a vector to reintercept the arrival. This aircraft had a flight director, autoplt confign non- standard. I believe this caused me not to xchk the other pilot as well as I might otherwise have.
