Narrative:
Picked up IFR clearance to dfw -- via the boids arrival which is okc 167 degree radial for 68 mi then the bpr 005 degree radial to bpr. Clearance was 'cleared as filed fly heading 200 degrees.' we understood this as fly 200 degree to join airway. We were late in changing frequency, ATC advised us we were not cleared to join airway. Unclr clearance from ATC and frequency change during climb checks contributed to this error.

Title: FLC OF AN MDT FAILED TO FOLLOW DEP HDG ASSIGNED BY ATC RESULTING IN ATC TO RESTATE CLRNC HDG AND TURN ACFT BACK TO ASSIGNED HDG.
Narrative: PICKED UP IFR CLRNC TO DFW -- VIA THE BOIDS ARR WHICH IS OKC 167 DEG RADIAL FOR 68 MI THEN THE BPR 005 DEG RADIAL TO BPR. CLRNC WAS 'CLRED AS FILED FLY HDG 200 DEGS.'
