Narrative:

On jul/sat/95 at approximately XA00 CST, on the blue ridge 6 arrival to dfw, past lit at FL350, in VMC, ZFW cleared us to descend to cross conny at FL240. Normally I program the performance management system with bottom of descent information as a backup for planning my descent. I did not do that this time, but I began a performance management system descent based on my own descent computation. When the #1 flight attendant came into the cockpit, I let myself become distracted, and did not monitor my descent progress. We crossed conny 1000 ft high. ATC made no comment. Naturally I should have given more of my attention to flying and less to talking. Programming the bottom of descent and more importantly, the crossing restr at conny would have made it easier to monitor the descent.

Title: ALT XING RESTR -- ACR CROSSES A NAV POINT 1000 FT HIGH WHEN FLC BECOMES DISTRACTED BY AN EXTRANEOUS CONVERSATION.

Narrative: ON JUL/SAT/95 AT APPROX XA00 CST, ON THE BLUE RIDGE 6 ARR TO DFW, PAST LIT AT FL350, IN VMC, ZFW CLRED US TO DSND TO CROSS CONNY AT FL240. NORMALLY I PROGRAM THE PERFORMANCE MGMNT SYS WITH BOTTOM OF DSCNT INFO AS A BACKUP FOR PLANNING MY DSCNT. I DID NOT DO THAT THIS TIME, BUT I BEGAN A PERFORMANCE MGMNT SYS DSCNT BASED ON MY OWN DSCNT COMPUTATION. WHEN THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT CAME INTO THE COCKPIT, I LET MYSELF BECOME DISTRACTED, AND DID NOT MONITOR MY DSCNT PROGRESS. WE CROSSED CONNY 1000 FT HIGH. ATC MADE NO COMMENT. NATURALLY I SHOULD HAVE GIVEN MORE OF MY ATTN TO FLYING AND LESS TO TALKING. PROGRAMMING THE BOTTOM OF DSCNT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE XING RESTR AT CONNY WOULD HAVE MADE IT EASIER TO MONITOR THE DSCNT.
