Narrative:
Captain smelled smoke, flight attendant came to flight deck and reported smoke. I checked #2 engine (running), cockpit indicators and lights. Got up to check cabin and aircraft exterior. Observed smoke in cabin section C. Smelled smoke. Passenger in area of right side window exit were leaving their seats. Woman passenger in row 10 stated 'fire,' so I reported 'fire and/or smoke in the cabin' to the captain. Captain ordered evacuate/evacuation. Told passenger 'follow me, we're leaving the aircraft.' marshalled passenger onto an empty bus. Transferred passenger to a bus that arrived, announced for all passenger -- 31 adults, 3 infants. Passenger clear of the scene in about 2-3 mins. Checked cabin clear. Fire department responded, no injuries. Supplemental information from acn 311158: fire department on scene within 4 mins. No fire detected by fire department. Company maintenance checked aircraft and discovered a faulty recirculation fan.
