Narrative:

After takeoff, VFR, tried to pick up IFR clearance. Not able on ground, called in air. Distracted by propeller problem that turned out to be a broken cable. Heading and orientation were temporarily off. Never unsafe but may have come too close (probably not in) class B airspace. Picked up clearance, figured out propeller problem, no further incidents. Suggest that ability to get IFR clearance on ground would have reduced workload. Suggest pilot could have picked up void time clearance but not a normal procedure in VFR condition.
