Narrative:
Flight was given hardstand X to park while we awaited our gate that was occupied. We were parked at X when an MD80 did a power-back from Y. The power-back kept coming back until my first officer yelled on the ramp radio to stop. The power- back aircraft finally stopped with its right engine 6-8 ft from the left windscreen of my cockpit. I do not think that the ground people were watching as close as they should have. We came close to a really bad accident.
