Narrative:
Prior to departure from ida, I received appropriate IFR clearance to boi. 'As filed, maintain FL220, ZLC 128.75 and squawk.' slc radar was OTS, and we were advised of a delay in following another IFR outbound. We decided to request VFR on top and were cleared to do so by ida tower. After receiving takeoff clearance, we contacted center, they acknowledged, and we were told to report 40 DME east of ida. (Our initial callup to slc was 'off ida 6.5 for FL220'.) the remainder of the flight operated with all the normalities of an IFR flight at FL220. At 40 DME, I made position report, was asked my altitude and (answered) 'FL220.' at that time it appeared both we and ZLC, realized our VFR on top flight should not have entered the positive control area/class a airspace. I apologized for the mishap, center did not seem to mind, and we continued the flight to boi, with no corrective actions assigned or taken.

Title: CPR JET OPERATED IN CLASS AIRSPACE WITHOUT AN IFR CLRNC.
Narrative: PRIOR TO DEP FROM IDA, I RECEIVED APPROPRIATE IFR CLRNC TO BOI. 'AS FILED, MAINTAIN FL220, ZLC 128.75 AND SQUAWK.' SLC RADAR WAS OTS, AND WE WERE ADVISED OF A DELAY IN FOLLOWING ANOTHER IFR OUTBOUND. WE DECIDED TO REQUEST VFR ON TOP AND WERE CLRED TO DO SO BY IDA TWR. AFTER RECEIVING TKOF CLRNC, WE CONTACTED CTR, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED, AND WE WERE TOLD TO RPT 40 DME E OF IDA. (OUR INITIAL CALLUP TO SLC WAS 'OFF IDA 6.5 FOR FL220'.) THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT OPERATED WITH ALL THE NORMALITIES OF AN IFR FLT AT FL220. AT 40 DME, I MADE POS RPT, WAS ASKED MY ALT AND (ANSWERED) 'FL220.' AT THAT TIME IT APPEARED BOTH WE AND ZLC, REALIZED OUR VFR ON TOP FLT SHOULD NOT HAVE ENTERED THE PCA/CLASS A AIRSPACE. I APOLOGIZED FOR THE MISHAP, CTR DID NOT SEEM TO MIND, AND WE CONTINUED THE FLT TO BOI, WITH NO CORRECTIVE ACTIONS ASSIGNED OR TAKEN.
