Narrative:
During takeoff from runway 17L at lrd, both tires on the left side blew. My captain rejected the takeoff because he had difficulty maintaining directional control and we were still 20 KTS short of V1. The airplane came to a stop at the gravel overrun of runway 17L. With both left tires blown, the brakes were not very effective and it was hard to get the airplane stopped. I do not know what caused the tires to blow, it is very likely that we picked up foreign object damage on the cargo ramp or on taxi.
