Narrative:
On approach to runway 26L just prior to touchdown noticed we flew over a obstacle that was on centerline of runway with a red beacon on. But I felt that was odd and very close to our aircraft. Asked first officer, PF, if he noticed and he did not. This was around XA00. Next morning same approach XB00 his leg asked him to observe and again we flew over a drilling rig on centerline of runway 26L. Nothing in company bulletin or NOTAMS or ATIS addressing this obstacle before departing for dfw called dispatch and they knew of nothing on runway 26L, called phx tower they knew of nothing on runway 26L. Called phx, he called 2 phone numbers and found out all specifications. It was approved and located at 3000 ft off runway 26L approach centerline 120 ft tall. Why not in ATIS? Not in company bulletins or NOTAMS? On way out to dfw called tower on frequency and advised them to put on ATIS and they did so. When you find exactly where this is located figure our clearance above this tower? My guess less than 200 ft?
