Narrative:
On climb out out of clt on the hornet 6 SID we were handed over to ZTL from clt departure. After checking in, the center gave us a higher altitude and told us to proceed direct to 'atl' rest of route unchanged. A quick check of our route showed that we were not going over 'atl.' so we told ZTL we were not filed that way. Of course, he asked us how we were filed, which we told him. At that point he changed our clearance to 'atl-vuz as previously cleared.' since we had not reached the 'haray' intersection on the charlotte SID we were never off course, but would have been had we not been given a change upon check-in. The confusion I feel resulted from the display on our ACARS screen. Since our company filed route showed 'clt haray odf vuz J52 dfw J4 abi J66 ewm J4 san' I assumed the 'haray spa J14 atl vuz' part was a mistake since it was not complete. My thoughts and resolutions: it would be helpful to put 'amdt' or something similar if the route is amended on the screen. It also would be nice if they know they are amending the route, not to include any other unnecessary rtes on the same screen. I should have called clearance by voice and verified the route instead of assuming they had made a mistake.

Title: PDC CONFUSION. AMENDED SECTION OF ROUTING MISSED.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT OUT OF CLT ON THE HORNET 6 SID WE WERE HANDED OVER TO ZTL FROM CLT DEP. AFTER CHKING IN, THE CTR GAVE US A HIGHER ALT AND TOLD US TO PROCEED DIRECT TO 'ATL' REST OF RTE UNCHANGED. A QUICK CHK OF OUR RTE SHOWED THAT WE WERE NOT GOING OVER 'ATL.' SO WE TOLD ZTL WE WERE NOT FILED THAT WAY. OF COURSE, HE ASKED US HOW WE WERE FILED, WHICH WE TOLD HIM. AT THAT POINT HE CHANGED OUR CLRNC TO 'ATL-VUZ AS PREVIOUSLY CLRED.' SINCE WE HAD NOT REACHED THE 'HARAY' INTXN ON THE CHARLOTTE SID WE WERE NEVER OFF COURSE, BUT WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD WE NOT BEEN GIVEN A CHANGE UPON CHK-IN. THE CONFUSION I FEEL RESULTED FROM THE DISPLAY ON OUR ACARS SCREEN. SINCE OUR COMPANY FILED RTE SHOWED 'CLT HARAY ODF VUZ J52 DFW J4 ABI J66 EWM J4 SAN' I ASSUMED THE 'HARAY SPA J14 ATL VUZ' PART WAS A MISTAKE SINCE IT WAS NOT COMPLETE. MY THOUGHTS AND RESOLUTIONS: IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO PUT 'AMDT' OR SOMETHING SIMILAR IF THE RTE IS AMENDED ON THE SCREEN. IT ALSO WOULD BE NICE IF THEY KNOW THEY ARE AMENDING THE RTE, NOT TO INCLUDE ANY OTHER UNNECESSARY RTES ON THE SAME SCREEN. I SHOULD HAVE CALLED CLRNC BY VOICE AND VERIFIED THE RTE INSTEAD OF ASSUMING THEY HAD MADE A MISTAKE.
