Narrative:
On our takeoff roll from runway 8R in phx, tower gave us an amended clearance to fly heading 095 degrees at the 4 DME east of pxr. We were flying the DRYHT1.dryht SID. We understood the clearance to be heading 195 degrees at the 4 DME, which seemed correct because the SID is to fly a 190 degree heading. When we were turning through about 140-150 degrees, the controller asked, were we on a heading of 095 degrees, and then told us to turn to the 095 degree heading. We proceeded on without further incident. This misunderstanding arose when we got a clearance during a critical phase of flight. We were also expecting to fly the SID. It would help if these clrncs were not given at such a rushed time.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A319 CREW MAKES A WRONG TURN ON DEP AFTER BEING GIVEN AN AMENDED CLRNC DURING TKOF ROLL.
Narrative: ON OUR TKOF ROLL FROM RWY 8R IN PHX, TWR GAVE US AN AMENDED CLRNC TO FLY HDG 095 DEGS AT THE 4 DME E OF PXR. WE WERE FLYING THE DRYHT1.DRYHT SID. WE UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC TO BE HDG 195 DEGS AT THE 4 DME, WHICH SEEMED CORRECT BECAUSE THE SID IS TO FLY A 190 DEG HDG. WHEN WE WERE TURNING THROUGH ABOUT 140-150 DEGS, THE CTLR ASKED, WERE WE ON A HDG OF 095 DEGS, AND THEN TOLD US TO TURN TO THE 095 DEG HDG. WE PROCEEDED ON WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS MISUNDERSTANDING AROSE WHEN WE GOT A CLRNC DURING A CRITICAL PHASE OF FLT. WE WERE ALSO EXPECTING TO FLY THE SID. IT WOULD HELP IF THESE CLRNCS WERE NOT GIVEN AT SUCH A RUSHED TIME.
