Narrative:
Upon receiving taxi instruction for runway 36 at dca we began to taxi toward taxiway J from taxiway left. We crossed taxiway left at taxiway north at which time I told the captain we missed the right turn at taxiway J and were heading for runway 36. Captain immediately turned right onto the reverse high speed of taxiway north. We then continued to taxi on taxiway J. Ground began to call us until he saw us making the correction. At no time did we enter runway 36 itself. However, we did cross the runway hold line for runway 36. Inattn to taxi route and instructions were the major causes.
