Narrative:
On the visual approach to runway 31 lga. In this situation, we were high for our range to the field. The captain continued through 3000 ft inadvertently while thinking about his 3 degree approach. The copilot was clearing and searching for the field through haze and a low sun angle. I was performing the approach check. We stopped the descent by 2300 ft AGL and returned to 3000 ft. We were then cleared to 2000 ft, almost immediately. This occurred because all 3 of us were distracted at the wrong time. A contributing factor was the late notification of a right turn to final versus vectors over the field to the expressway visual to runway 31. That left us a little high and rushed. We are very familiar with the area. The rest of the approach was normal. There was no conflict. Supplemental information from acn 314381: cause: I became preoccupied with glide path management prior to actual clearance for the visual.

Title: ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION -- ACR CAPT ANTICIPATING A STEEP VISUAL APCH DEPARTS HIS ASSIGNED ALT PREMATURELY.
Narrative: ON THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 31 LGA. IN THIS SIT, WE WERE HIGH FOR OUR RANGE TO THE FIELD. THE CAPT CONTINUED THROUGH 3000 FT INADVERTENTLY WHILE THINKING ABOUT HIS 3 DEG APCH. THE COPLT WAS CLRING AND SEARCHING FOR THE FIELD THROUGH HAZE AND A LOW SUN ANGLE. I WAS PERFORMING THE APCH CHK. WE STOPPED THE DSCNT BY 2300 FT AGL AND RETURNED TO 3000 FT. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO 2000 FT, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE ALL 3 OF US WERE DISTRACTED AT THE WRONG TIME. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE LATE NOTIFICATION OF A R TURN TO FINAL VERSUS VECTORS OVER THE FIELD TO THE EXPRESSWAY VISUAL TO RWY 31. THAT LEFT US A LITTLE HIGH AND RUSHED. WE ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA. THE REST OF THE APCH WAS NORMAL. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 314381: CAUSE: I BECAME PREOCCUPIED WITH GLIDE PATH MGMNT PRIOR TO ACTUAL CLRNC FOR THE VISUAL.
