Narrative:

We asked for clearance over the top of class B. Then we were told to descend to 13500 ft then to 9500 ft and they would vector us to seal beach VORTAC. Then we were handed off to another controller who asked how were we going to navigation through class B. I told him we asked to be going over the top but were requested to vector through to seal beach. Then he said, after a pause, we were cleared through to seal beach. After thinking back on the situation that night at home I began to wonder if the vector I got to descend to 9500 ft and seal beach, was taken by me to be cleared through and the next controller was the one we should have asked for clearance through. We did get clearance but we may have already been in class B? Corrective action by me would be to ask for clearance with all controllers along to ZLA to socal to find the right one, before I'm in the airspace or always file IFR to go through los angeles class B. We were on flight following from rdd to ful and I was not PIC but was helping with radios.

Narrative: WE ASKED FOR CLRNC OVER THE TOP OF CLASS B. THEN WE WERE TOLD TO DSND TO 13500 FT THEN TO 9500 FT AND THEY WOULD VECTOR US TO SEAL BEACH VORTAC. AFTER THINKING BACK ON THE SIT THAT NIGHT AT HOME I BEGAN TO WONDER IF THE VECTOR I GOT TO DSND TO 9500 FT AND SEAL BEACH, WAS TAKEN BY ME TO BE CLRED THROUGH AND THE NEXT CTLR WAS THE ONE WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED FOR CLRNC THROUGH. WE DID GET CLRNC BUT WE MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN CLASS B? CORRECTIVE ACTION BY ME WOULD BE TO ASK FOR CLRNC WITH ALL CTLRS ALONG TO ZLA TO SOCAL TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE, BEFORE I'M IN THE AIRSPACE OR ALWAYS FILE IFR TO GO THROUGH LOS ANGELES CLASS B. WE WERE ON FLT FOLLOWING FROM RDD TO FUL AND I WAS NOT PIC BUT WAS HELPING WITH RADIOS.
