Narrative:
Shortly after departure from sin, we encountered numerous lines of thunderstorms. This was not a problem until we switched to HF and began communicating with sin ATC through air carrier radio. Due to all the different air carrier radios and aircraft using the same HF frequency (89.42), it took some time to put in a request to deviate around WX. Then, we flew over 100 mi before we received clearance to deviate. To make matters worse, we requested a right deviation, but were cleared to deviate left. This put us in a very unsafe position, surrounded by heavy cells and had to change our plan of attack. Also, once you enter the clouds, you can forget about communicating at all with the increase in static on the HF radio. Corrective actions: separate HF frequencys for each air carrier radio in the area. Better yet, direct communication with ATC using satellite communication or ACARS, NOTAMS as to which side of track you can expect clearance to deviate around WX. We need more timely clrncs to deviate around WX in southeast asia.

Title: ANOTHER ACR CREW HAD PROBS WITH HF RADIO.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER DEP FROM SIN, WE ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS LINES OF TSTMS. THIS WAS NOT A PROB UNTIL WE SWITCHED TO HF AND BEGAN COMMUNICATING WITH SIN ATC THROUGH ACR RADIO. DUE TO ALL THE DIFFERENT ACR RADIOS AND ACFT USING THE SAME HF FREQ (89.42), IT TOOK SOME TIME TO PUT IN A REQUEST TO DEVIATE AROUND WX. THEN, WE FLEW OVER 100 MI BEFORE WE RECEIVED CLRNC TO DEVIATE. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, WE REQUESTED A R DEV, BUT WERE CLRED TO DEVIATE L. THIS PUT US IN A VERY UNSAFE POS, SURROUNDED BY HVY CELLS AND HAD TO CHANGE OUR PLAN OF ATTACK. ALSO, ONCE YOU ENTER THE CLOUDS, YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT COMMUNICATING AT ALL WITH THE INCREASE IN STATIC ON THE HF RADIO. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: SEPARATE HF FREQS FOR EACH ACR RADIO IN THE AREA. BETTER YET, DIRECT COM WITH ATC USING SATELLITE COM OR ACARS, NOTAMS AS TO WHICH SIDE OF TRACK YOU CAN EXPECT CLRNC TO DEVIATE AROUND WX. WE NEED MORE TIMELY CLRNCS TO DEVIATE AROUND WX IN SE ASIA.
