Narrative:

A VFR cross country had been planned with my student to fly from bed to fok and back. When I left the airport on friday, the mechanic had started the 100 hour inspection on the aircraft to be used on sunday flight. On sunday when I came to do the flight with my student, the owner of the FBO and the aircraft, and also the ia who signs the books for the aircraft, handed me the keys to the aircraft. As I always have been supplied with aircraft up on all inspections, I had no reason to doubt the 100 hour inspection had not been completed and that the entry in the logbook was falsified. I did the cross country with my student in the plane with no problems. About 1 week later the FAA had inspected the books for the plane and noticed the discrepancy in the date of completion of the 100 hour as friday, but observed the mechanic do it on the day after my flight. In turn the FAA inspector inquired about all people who flew the plane over the weekend. I was one of two CFI's who gave instruction in the plane that did not have the 100 hour inspection completed. There was no way of me knowing that the 100 hours was not done and the log entry false. I believe the owner knew and could have brought it to my attention and given me another aircraft.

Narrative: A VFR XCOUNTRY HAD BEEN PLANNED WITH MY STUDENT TO FLY FROM BED TO FOK AND BACK. WHEN I LEFT THE ARPT ON FRIDAY, THE MECH HAD STARTED THE 100 HR INSPECTION ON THE ACFT TO BE USED ON SUNDAY FLT. ON SUNDAY WHEN I CAME TO DO THE FLT WITH MY STUDENT, THE OWNER OF THE FBO AND THE ACFT, AND ALSO THE IA WHO SIGNS THE BOOKS FOR THE ACFT, HANDED ME THE KEYS TO THE ACFT. AS I ALWAYS HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED WITH ACFT UP ON ALL INSPECTIONS, I HAD NO REASON TO DOUBT THE 100 HR INSPECTION HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED AND THAT THE ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK WAS FALSIFIED. I DID THE XCOUNTRY WITH MY STUDENT IN THE PLANE WITH NO PROBS. ABOUT 1 WK LATER THE FAA HAD INSPECTED THE BOOKS FOR THE PLANE AND NOTICED THE DISCREPANCY IN THE DATE OF COMPLETION OF THE 100 HR AS FRIDAY, BUT OBSERVED THE MECH DO IT ON THE DAY AFTER MY FLT. IN TURN THE FAA INSPECTOR INQUIRED ABOUT ALL PEOPLE WHO FLEW THE PLANE OVER THE WEEKEND. I WAS ONE OF TWO CFI'S WHO GAVE INSTRUCTION IN THE PLANE THAT DID NOT HAVE THE 100 HR INSPECTION COMPLETED. THERE WAS NO WAY OF ME KNOWING THAT THE 100 HRS WAS NOT DONE AND THE LOG ENTRY FALSE. I BELIEVE THE OWNER KNEW AND COULD HAVE BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTN AND GIVEN ME ANOTHER ACFT.
