Narrative:

Our descent to destination had been delayed and when we got our descent to FL240 we somehow missed altitude alerter and did not call out '1000 ft to go' as we usually do. We descended to 22800 ft before realizing our error and had initiated a climb back to altitude when the controller called in. We were 41 mi north of sea isle talking to ZDC on 133.12. We will avoid distrs in the future during descent or climb that could cause us to miss our altitude.
