Narrative:
Told to enter hold at ryann, FL240. Alert ATC controller noticed we were entering hold with a right turn instead of depicted left turn. He immediately gave permission to continue right turn and one turn in holding, then proceed on boids 4 direct to bpr. Mistake was inadvertent. No conflict was present. No safety consideration. The controller was very good, and very alert. The hold patterns on the FMS approach plates are correct, but the holds on stars are not. FMS software database should reflect or could be programmed for correct holding patterns as published.
