Narrative:
Ground control cleared my aircraft to cross the active runway 27 on taxiway D from the south side to the north side. Upon reaching the edge of runway 27, we could not find the north side of taxiway D. We turned the aircraft around quickly to get off the active runway and go back to the south side of taxiway D. No evasive action was taken by aircraft taking off, landing, or on the txwys. The north side of taxiway D which was an old runway at a 45 degree angle to runway 27, needs better lighting and markings.
