Narrative:
Landing VFR at use and deplaning, airport manager tells us that the airport is closed. On approach to land we flew 2300 ft over the field and noticed no markings to indicate closed. No report over unicom, no mention of closed airport. Our commercial WX brief reported no NOTAMS at use. During file no NOTAMS were asked for. To correct this problem, better flight plan procedures. Our company only allows 15 mins preflight. Better update to commercial WX service. Better airport closed markings. Better local communication. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states there was a NOTAM in effect at the time. They learned this after the fact. It was a temporary NOTAM to allow for construction. No follow up of any nature has occurred.
